Sikkim Prioritizes Agniveers: 20% Police Constable Posts Reserved with Age Perks for Ex-Servicemen

Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang revealed a strategic initiative to bolster military-civil collaboration by announcing a 20% reservation for Agniveers in the recruitment of police constables. The announcement took place during the ‘Shared Vision for Viksit Bharat 2047 – Military-Civil Fusion 2025’ symposium held in Gangtok, underscoring the state’s commitment to integrate military experience into its civilian workforce.

In a further effort to support veterans, Tamang also declared a significant policy shift allowing ex-servicemen a 10-year relaxation in the upper age limit for police recruitment. This change permits veterans who have served at least six months in the Armed Forces to apply for these positions until they reach 50 years of age, relaxing the standard 40-year age cap typically seen in Sikkim government positions.
