The National Stock Exchange (NSE) has pledged financial support to the families of victims affected by the tragic terrorist attack that occurred in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, 2025. In a move underscoring corporate responsibility and solidarity, NSE announced a donation of Rs 1 crore to the next of kin of the 26 individuals who lost their lives in the attack. Ashish Chauhan, Managing Director and CEO of NSE, expressed his deep sorrow and affirmed the organization’s commitment to support the victims’ families during this challenging time. Writing on the social media platform X, Chauhan conveyed, “We are deeply saddened by the tragic terrorist attack in Kashmir where 26 people lost their lives. In a humble gesture of support, NSE pledges Rs 1 crore to the next of kin of the victims, standing in solidarity with their families during this difficult time.”
In a related development, the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) of India has also announced measures to assist the victims’ families. In a public statement, the country’s largest life insurer shared their deep grief over the incident and reiterated their commitment to swiftly settle claims, providing much-needed financial relief to the affected families. “LIC of India expresses deep grief over the death of innocent citizens at Pahalgam in the terrorist attack,” the statement read. In an effort to expedite the claims process, LIC has decided to accept any official proof of death recorded in government records or compensation provided by Central or state governments as valid documentation, bypassing the need for formal death certificates. Siddharta Mohanty, LIC’s Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, assured that “all efforts will be taken to ensure that the claimants are reached out to and claims are settled expeditiously to the affected families.”
The attack has drawn national attention, with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressing the issue directly in a public rally in Bihar. Reinforcing the government’s tough stance on terrorism, PM Modi vowed that the perpetrators would be identified and brought to justice. “The spirit of India would never be broken by terrorism. Terrorism will not go unpunished,” he asserted, promising continued vigilance against threats to national security.
The incident has sparked widespread reactions across India, with various organizations and leaders expressing their condolences and support for the victims. The tragedy highlights ongoing security challenges in the region, underscoring the need for continued vigilance and collective efforts to combat terrorism. Both NSE’s and LIC’s initiatives demonstrate how institutions can play a vital role in providing relief and support during crises, ensuring that victims’ families receive the assistance they need promptly.
As the nation mourns the loss of innocent lives in Pahalgam, the collective response from both corporate entities and government leaders sends a powerful message of unity and resilience. It demonstrates a shared commitment to standing firm against the threats posed by terrorism while supporting those affected in tangible and meaningful ways.
