The love story between Yasmin and Sai Teja began during their college days in Putalapattu and culminated in marriage at a temple in Nellore on February 9, 2025. Given the family’s strong disapproval, the couple sought police protection shortly after their wedding, leading the Tirupati Rural police to counsel Yasmin’s family against harming the newlyweds. However, on April 12, Yasmin received a call from her family claiming her father, Shaukat Ali, was gravely ill and inviting her to visit. Sai Teja permitted her to return home, concerned about her father’s health. The following day, Sai Teja received distressing news that his wife had fallen ill and been hospitalized. Upon reaching the Chittoor hospital, he was informed that Yasmin was deceased, purportedly having taken her own life, according to her family’s account before they vanished.
Chittoor II Town sub-inspector of police, K. Suguna, disclosed to The Hindu on April 17, 2025, that a case had been registered under Section 174, concerning suspicious deaths. “We are waiting for the post-mortem report to determine the exact cause of death,” Suguna revealed. Yasmin’s mother has been detained by police, but other family members are currently evading capture. Special police teams have been deployed to apprehend them for questioning. Authorities have also seized the vehicle used to transport Yasmin’s body to the hospital, further supporting the investigation into potential foul play.
Sai Teja steadfastly maintains that his wife was murdered by her family, who opposed their interfaith union and accused her of bringing disgrace to them.
