Manipur Cracks Down on Terror: Ceasefire Breach as Security Forces Nab Two PREPAK (Pro) Militants
Security Forces Nab Two PREPAK (Pro) Cadres in Separate Operations in Manipur
In a significant crackdown on extremism, security forces in Manipur have apprehended two active members of the proscribed militant outfit PREPAK (Pro) from separate locations in the state. The arrests were made in Jiribam and Bishnupur districts, casting a spotlight on the ongoing efforts to curb the activities of the militant group.
In the first operation, security personnel detained 32-year-old Saikhom Sandip Singha, a resident of Assam, from the Bidya Nagar area under the jurisdiction of Jiribam Police Station. Singha, who hails from Saikhom Leikai, Sonai Bazar in Cachar, Assam, has been identified as a key member of the PREPAK (Pro) organization. The Jiribam Police Station confirmed the arrest, citing Singha’s alleged involvement in promoting militancy in the region.
In a similar operation, security forces apprehended 25-year-old Irengbam Robinson Singh from his residence at Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou, Ward No. 4, under Bishnupur Police Station. During a subsequent search of his premises, a cache of empty ammunition cases and communication equipment was recovered. The seizure includes an array of ammunition cases, including 196 empty cases of .303 mm ammunition, 82 empty cases of 7.62 mm SLR ammunition, 55 empty cases of 5.56 mm INSAS ammunition, and 32 empty cases of 7.62 mm AK ammunition. Additionally, a mobile phone with a SIM card was found in Singh’s possession.
When questioned by authorities, Singh reportedly remained tight-lipped about his association with PREPAK (Pro) and the seized items. Maps and documents seized from the premises are being analyzed to gather more intelligence on the group’s activities. The investigation is ongoing, with officials attributing the success to the synergy between security forces and intelligence agencies.
The recent arrests underscore the concerted efforts to disrupt the activities of PREPAK (Pro) and other extremist groups in the region. As authorities continue to scrutinize the recovered materials, officials are working to unravel the militant group’s network and disrupt its operations. The arrests demonstrate a significant blow to the group’s capabilities, highlighting the effectiveness of collaborative efforts to curb extremism.
The PREPAK (Pro) outfit has been responsible for numerous violent incidents in Manipur, including attacks on security forces and civilians. The group’s activities have caused significant disruptions to the daily lives of residents, rendering many areas inaccessible due to the ongoing violence. The recent operations demonstrate a renewed commitment to tackling extremism and ensuring the safety and security of citizens in the region.
As the investigation continues, the security forces are working tirelessly to dismantle the militant group’s infrastructure and disrupt their plans. The arrests serve as a stark reminder of the ongoing threat posed by PREPAK (Pro) and the importance of continued vigilance and cooperation among security agencies to combat extremism.
