Power Outages Scheduled in Sikkim’s Gangtok, Mangan, and Pakyong Districts
The power department of Sikkim has announced a series of power outages in Gangtok, Mangan, and Pakyong districts to facilitate the installation of a crucial 1x50MVA transformer at the 132/66KV Substation at LLHP under PGCIL. The shutdowns are aimed at meeting the increasing power demands, enhancing grid stability, and fulfilling the N-1 contingency requirement, according to the official shutdown notice.
Residents in the affected areas can expect power cuts on April 13, 2025, from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon, and on April 14, from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm. The outages will impact the entire areas of Pakyong, Gangtok, and Mangan districts. These scheduled blackouts are part of a broader plan to ensure a better power supply in the future. Prior to this, earlier outages took place on March 22 and 23, from 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm, and on April 12, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.
The department has opted for weekends and holidays to conduct these critical works, minimizing inconvenience to the public. The 1x50MVA transformer installation will enable the power department to meet rising power demands and improve grid stability. The commissioning of this essential equipment is expected to provide a more reliable and efficient power supply to the residents of Sikkim.
In a statement, the power department emphasized the importance of this installation in meeting the increasing power demands and ensuring a stable power supply. The scheduled outages are necessary to facilitate the installation of the new transformer, which will ultimately benefit the residents of the districts. The power department has assured the public that the scheduled outages will not cause significant disruptions and have been planned to minimize inconvenience.
As the power department continues to work towards improving the power supply in Sikkim, residents are advised to make necessary arrangements for any inconvenience caused during the scheduled power outages. The power department has informed that they will provide regular updates on the scheduled outages and undertake necessary measures to minimize disruptions.
