Varanasi Transformed: PM Modi Showcase City’s Growth Amidst Swing at Opposition
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has highlighted the substantial transformation of Varanasi in the last decade, crediting the development with a massive injection of funds worth crores of rupees. Modi, who has been re-elected from the constituency three times, emphasized his commitment to working as a servant (sevak) to the people of Varanasi. Speaking at the inauguration of 44 projects worth Rs 3,880 crore, the PM asserted that the city has become a focal point on the economic map of Purvanchal (eastern UP).
Modi took a veiled swipe at the Opposition, stressing that his government is guided by the mantra of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” (collective progress), whereas those seeking power prioritize “parivar ka saath, parivar ka vikas” (family support, family development). Referring to the substantial investment in Varanasi’s connectivity, Modi claimed that Rs 45,000 crore has been spent on improving connectivity in the city and its surrounding areas, adding that this money has not only built concrete structures but also fostered trust.
The PM also emphasized the progress made by the youth of Varanasi, encouraging them to take up international sports and strive for Olympic medals. Modi mentioned that efforts are being made to organize the 2036 Olympics in India and that new stadiums and sports complexes are being developed in Varanasi to facilitate this. Additionally, he highlighted the growth of Uttar Pradesh, stating that the state has become number one in India for getting Geographical Indication (GI) tags, with over 30 products from Varanasi and nearby areas earning recognition.
Modi expressed his pride in the city’s transformation, asserting that Varanasi is not just ancient but also progressive. He stated that his objective is to continue making the city strong and dreamlike, reiterating his commitment to the people of Varanasi. The Prime Minister’s address seemed to be a rebuke to the Opposition, highlighting his government’s achievements in Varanasi and the rest of the country.
