Rajkandi Primary Health Center: Sudhanghsu’s Hope to Heal Tribal Area Woes
Tribal Residents in Agartala Endure Year-Long Water Crisis as Local Minister Visits Health Center
Rajkandi, 7th April 2025 – Reeling under a year-long water crisis, residents of Durai Shyamarai subdivision brought their concerns to the forefront today as SC Welfare Minister Sudhanghsu Das visited the Rajkandi Primary Health Center in Agartala. Das’ visit aimed to assess the healthcare services being provided to locals, but it also came as a catalyst for raising awareness about the deplorable water situation in the tribal area.
Residents plagued by inadequate water supply described the condition as "grim" with some families unable to access clean drinking water for three consecutive days. "We haven’t seen water from the installed government pump for almost a year – it’s excruciating," a frustrated local complained to Kamalpur Subdivision DWS Officer Sunil Debbarma. Frustration levels rose after witnessing pump operators run the facility for limited hours, leaving over 22 families without access to this basic necessity.
Das took up the issue seriously, actively engaging with officials at the Rajkandi Zonal Office on addressing long-standing problems in the tribal area. "Immediate action is required to tackle these issues," the Minister reportedly instructed concerned departments, mapping out a clear roadmap for change. Accompanied by MDC Dhirendra Debbarma and local representatives, Das toured the zonal office, selling the importance of clean water and good road infrastructure.
Besides discussing the water crisis, officials also touched upon road infrastructure and facilities. At the foreground, however, lies the crisis of inadequate water supply. While the government pump, which was installed to resolve this issue, seems to be of little use. DWS Officer Sunil Debbarma pledged assistance by assuring residents that water would be provided to them through government vehicles until the issue is resolved. As residents anxiously await long-term solutions, relief finally seems a sight in sight.
Sources close to the situation confirm that concerned officials have started making headway in resolving the problems by committed deadlines. Under constant public scrutiny, local representatives now face the daunting task of addressing existing and long-standing challenges, for promoting holistic development in these hitherto marginalized neighborhoods.
