Arunachal’s Seram Village Embarks on ‘Mission Mullek’ to Champion Sustainable Eco-Tourism and Thriving Green Development
Seram Village Embarks on Second Phase of Ecotourism Initiative, “Mission Mullek”
In a bold move to promote sustainable tourism and ecological preservation, Seram village in Mebo Sub-Division has launched the second phase of its environmental initiative, “Mission Mullek”, under the Eco-Clean Mebo Mission (ECMM). The collaborative effort between the Modi Welfare Society (MWS) and Mebo Administration aims to transform the region into an eco-tourism hub centered around Areca nut (Mullek) plantations. The initiative, which translates to Palm Yard Village, seeks to create a model for rural ecotourism through widespread cultivation of Areca nuts.
The launch event took place at the village’s community hall, Mosup, on Saturday, with enthusiastic participation from local residents. The occasion was graced by Mebo MLA Oken Tayeng, who commended the community’s commitment to the mission and called for sustained participation to ensure its long-term success. “I am optimistic that Seram will eventually become a prominent Areca nut hub, aligning with the mission’s sustainable development goals,” MLA Tayeng said.
Mission Mullek is aligned with ECMM’s broader objectives of environmental conservation, clean living, and community-led development. Chairperson of ECMM, Nancy Yirang Modi, emphasized that the project aims to create lasting benefits for both the local environment and economy. The initiative is a result of the continued efforts of Mebo’s administrative and community leaders, led by ADC Nancy Yirang and Director of Trade & Commerce, Sonyung Modi, who are committed to a greener future.
The project, initially launched by former ADC and current Director of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Sibo Passing, aims to promote sustainable development and create jobs in the region. The Areca nut plantations are expected to attract eco-tourists, providing a platform for the local community to showcase their culture and hospitality. Seram’s transformation into an eco-tourism hub has the potential to become a model for rural development, prioritizing environmental conservation and community empowerment.
The success of Mission Mullek relies on the sustained participation of local residents and the continued support of administrative and community leaders. As the region moves forward with this ambitious initiative, it is crucial to maintain the balance between economic growth and environmental preservation. With the second phase of Mission Mullek underway, Seram village is poised to become a shining example of sustainable tourism and ecological preservation in the region.
