Manipur Police Arrest Alleged Rapist, Rescue 10-Year-Old Victim in Churachandpur District
In a swift operation, Manipur police arrested an alleged rapist and rescued a 10-year-old victim girl on Saturday, according to an official statement released on Sunday. The joint team, including the women’s police station in Churachandpur, conducted the raid following a report of sexual abuse of a girl in the western side of Churachandpur town.
The statement revealed that the team received information about a sexual assault case involving a 10-year-old girl from Chandel District, who was residing in Churachandpur District, on April 4. The police team rushed to the Churachandpur District Hospital to investigate and locate the perpetrator. After identifying the accused, the team conducted a thorough search in different areas of the town, leading to the apprehension of one culprit in conflict with the law (CCL) from Zion Veng, Tuibong Sub-Division, Churachandpur District.
The Zomi Mothers’ Association has strongly condemned the act of the perpetrator, urging the concerned authorities to punish him under the relevant section of the law. Unfortunately, the district hospital has witnessed multiple rape cases in recent years. According to records, there were 3 rape cases in 2025, 2 in 2021, 11 in 2022, 2 cases in 2023, and 9 cases in 2024.
The police team’s swift action in this case is a testament to their commitment to addressing the issue of sexual violence in the state. The Manipur government has been working to combat the increasing number of rape cases in the region, and this successful operation is a step in the right direction.
