TMC Exposed: Amit Shah Slams Hypocrisy Over Sandeshkhali Tragedy
Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed the Rajya Sabha on April 4, tackling the sensitive issue of ethnic violence in Manipur. While stressing that he wouldn’t politicize the matter, Shah drew a stark comparison with the situation in West Bengal’s Sandeshkhali, a move widely seen as targeting the Trinamool Congress (TMC). The Union Home Minister accused the TMC of exhibiting “double standards” on violence against women, acknowledging that racial violence in Manipur had led to abuses against women from both communities.
Shah emphasized that the Centre condemned such incidents, citing that many women had to face abuse. He also highlighted the inaction of the West Bengal government, specifically referencing the RG Kar hospital incident, in which hundreds of women were abused. Shah further pointed out that a party member was behind the incident, which led to the suspension of the individual. The Union Home Minister concluded his statement by saying, “We support neither, but you cannot have double standards.”
The issue in Manipur was triggered by a High Court order in May 2023, which led to insecurities among the tribal community, ultimately becoming a tribals versus non-tribal issue. Shah revealed that 13 meetings had taken place with both communities, aiming to resolve the matter. He stressed that the government is committed to resolving the dispute and hopes that both communities will participate in dialogue.
Notably, Shah moved the resolution for Rajya Sabha nod to the Presidential proclamation for the president’s rule in Manipur, which was later confirmed by Parliament. Shiv Sena MP Milind Deora also spoke on the matter, stating that all parties are concerned about the state’s situation and want peace, development, progress, and stability. Deora emphasized that the government’s goal is to find a solution to the crisis, and politicians must work with the government to achieve this objective.
The Union Home Minister repeated that the government is not in favor of continuing President’s Rule in the State even for a single day. Shah’s statement highlights the delicate situation in Manipur, where government intervention is necessary to maintain peace and stability. The government’s efforts to address the issue, including the 13 meetings with community representatives, demonstrate a commitment to finding a lasting solution. As the situation unfolds, it remains crucial for all parties to work together to ensure the well-being and security of the people of Manipur.
