Elevating Education: 925 Students in South West Garo Hills Empowered with Digital Learning Tablets
Meghalaya Embarks on Digital Education Revolution
In a significant push towards digitization, 925 students from 13 schools in South West Garo Hills have been equipped with learning tablets under the Meghalaya Chief Minister’s Students Digital Learning Aid (M-TAB) initiative. The ambitious project aims to revolutionize education in the state, leveraging technology to enhance learning outcomes and academic performance.
At the distribution event, held at the DRDA Hall in Ampati, Deputy Commissioner of South West Garo Hills, Hema Nayak, welcomed the initiative, emphasizing the importance of digital learning in the state’s education sector. Mahendraganj MLA Sanjay Sangma, the chief guest, highlighted the critical role of technology in modern education, emphasizing the need for students to be digitally literate. "Technology has become an integral part of our lives, and education is no exception," he noted, cautioning students about the importance of responsible digital usage." It’s crucial that we harness technology creatively and responsibly, neither letting it distract us from our goals nor overriding our own capacities for critical thinking and resourcefulness."
The M-TAB initiative is part of the government’s broader efforts to revamp education in Meghalaya. Deputy Commissioner Nayak commended the state’s ongoing initiatives to strengthen education, including the distribution of CM Impact booklets and the option for students to attempt the SSLC (Secondary School Leaving Certificate) examination twice a year. "These measures are designed to prevent students from losing an academic year due to exam failures," she emphasized.
District School Education Officer Tapos Marak acknowledged the Region’s challenges in SSLC and HSSLC results, urging students to effectively utilize digital learning tools to improve their academic results. Sub-Divisional School Education Officer Emphul Marak echoed this sentiment, expressing confidence that such initiatives would enhance knowledge and performance among students. "We believe that giving students access to digital resources will empower them to make the best of their academic potential, driving their academic success and grades."
The initiative has generated excitement among educators and students, marking a significant step towards transforming the state’s education landscape. By equipping students with tablets and facilitating access to digital resources, the Meghalaya government is working towards making education more inclusive, interactive, and effective in the state.
