Mizoram Police and Assam Rifles Seize Grande Cache of Methamphetamine Tablets Worth Rs 59.8 Lakh
In a significant haul, a joint team of Mizoram Police and Assam Rifles, assisted by volunteers of the Young Lai Association (YLA), conducted a raid near Bualpui (NG) village in Lawngtlai district and seized 42,000 Methamphetamine tablets on Wednesday. According to a police officer, the contraband was smuggled from neighboring Myanmar.
The seizure is a significant blow to illicit drug traffickers in the region and underscores the growing concern over drug trafficking from Myanmar. The tablets, valued at Rs 59.8 lakh, were discovered following a tip-off that led the joint team to the location. The seizure follows a meeting held on Monday between the Lawngtlai district administration, the state police, Assam Rifles personnel, and village council leaders with Myanmar refugees taking shelter in Bualpui (NG) village. The meeting aimed to brief the refugees on regulations they must adhere to while in Mizoram, including maintaining cordial relations with locals and avoiding contraband trafficking.
During the meeting, refugees were warned against engaging in illegal activities and instructed to seek permission from village council joint secretaries before traveling outside the village. They were also advised to report their return to the joint secretary. The move seeks to create a dialogue with the refugee community and ensure social harmony in the region.
The seizure is a testament to the effectiveness of inter-agency cooperation in combating drug trafficking and underscores the need for continued vigilance to disrupt the flow of illegal drugs into the region.
