Celebrating the vital theme of water conservation, the Environment Club at GTN Arts College in Dindigul marked World Water Day with an impactful awareness program on March 24. Approximately 150 students participated in the event, where the importance of sustainable water management was highlighted. S. Arun, the club coordinator, opened the proceedings, while College Director Durai presided over the function. P. Ravichandran, the club director, delivered a keynote address centered around the current World Water Day theme, emphasizing the urgency of conserving water amidst challenges like groundwater depletion, water scarcity, and climate change impacts. Ravichandran urged students to integrate water-saving practices into their everyday lives.
Meanwhile, in Srivilliputtur, Kalasalingam University’s Department of Mechanical Engineering hosted a significant international conference in collaboration with the University of Cagliari, Italy, and the University of Malaysia. Titled ‘Sustainable Development in Advanced Materials, Manufacturing and Industry 4.0’ (INSDAM 2025), the two-day event brought together experts from around the globe, with 180 research papers submitted. Keynote speeches by 15 international experts, including chief guest Seeram Ramakrishna from NUS, Singapore, enriched the conference. Guests of honor included Giridhar Raju from Chennai’s Solid Pro Engineering Support, and Flavio Stochino from the University of Cagliari. The conference underscored the ever-growing conversation around sustainable industry practices.
In Sattur, the Thirai Club of Sri S. Ramasamy Naidu Memorial College hosted the Naranapuram Alagiriswamy Jayaraman Annual Conclave, featuring renowned film director and cinematographer Deepak. Known for his critically acclaimed 2022 release, “Witness,” Deepak discussed the issue of visual violence in cinema with students, emphasizing the social responsibility of filmmakers. Buhari Raja, a YouTuber and documentary director, addressed the audience about creative collaboration with independent musicians to navigate copyright challenges, answering student questions and underlining the pragmatic aspects of creative work. Principal P. Rajaguru was instrumental in organizing this engaging forum.
Sri Krishnasamy Arts and Science College, also in Sattur, hosted the vibrant KRISHNA UTSAV 25’ on March 28. With Principal R. Ushadevi delivering the presidential address and SUN TV personalities VJ Nikki and VJ Akalya Venkatesan as guests of honor, the festivity featured diverse performances and activities. The Department of Commerce notably excelled, clinching the coveted overall rolling trophy for the celebration by showcasing exceptional talent.
Across in Virudhunagar, the Kamaraj Space Club of Kamaraj College of Engineering and Technology took an inventive leap with a Water Rocket Competition held on March 27. The event aimed to engender an interest in space science and engineering, as students took to designing and launching water rockets using two-litre plastic bottles, water, compressor motors, and launch pads. Teams demonstrated their grasp of aerodynamics, propulsion, and fluid dynamics, with the first prize awarded to a team that achieved an impressive launch distance of 118 meters. The event fostered creativity, teamwork, and scientific curiosity, marking a dynamic learning experience.
