Over the past 48 hours, a series of operations by Manipur police and central security forces have led to the arrest of six cadres from different underground groups involved in anti-social activities in the valley districts of Manipur. According to an official, the joint team apprehended two members of the proscribed People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (Prepak), identified as 35-year-old Hawaibam Ibungo @ Mangi and 52-year-old Pukhrambam Samchand Meetei @ Potshemba, from their hideouts in the Kakching and Imphal East districts.
The security forces also arrested four activists of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) from various locations in the valley districts. The arrested KCP members include Pukhrambam Rohit Singh @ Kakpa (29), Likmabam Amujao Meitei @ Lakpa (27), Loitongbam Boyai Singh (45), and Khumanthem Dhanabir Singh @ Naobi (28) of the KCP (Politburo Standing Committee) and KCP Taibanganba group. The operations took place in Imphal West and Bishnupur districts.
During the arrests, the police recovered six mobile handsets with an equal number of SIM cards and some incriminating documents, including demand letters, from the possession of the arrested individuals. The police have registered different FIRs against the arrested cadres under relevant sections of the law for further legal formalities.
The recent operations by the security forces are a significant blow to the underground groups and a testament to the dedication of the Manipur police and central security forces in their efforts to maintain law and order in the state.
