Manipur’s Governor Chairs First Governor-in-Council Meeting, Discusses Developmental and Administrative Matters
Imphal, March 25: In a significant development, Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla chaired the first meeting of the ‘Governor-in-Council’ at Raj Bhavan on Tuesday. The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Prashant Kumar Singh, principal secretaries, commissioners, and administrative secretaries of various departments.
The meeting focused on crucial developmental and administrative matters, with approvals granted to several proposals, according to a statement from Raj Bhavan. The discussions were an indication of the Governor’s commitment to ensuring the smooth functioning of the state government during the current president’s rule.
In the evening, National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) managing director Dr. Krishnan Kumar, along with executive director MS Deval, called on the Governor at Raj Bhavan. They updated him on the progress of various national highway projects underway in the state and discussed the key challenges being faced in their implementation. The Governor directed the officials to take necessary measures to address these challenges and ensure the timely completion of the projects.
The meeting comes amid growing public dissatisfaction with NHIDCL’s performance, evident in recent protests and road blockades by organizations such as the Youth Welfare Club and the Women Development Committee of Patsoi Part (I) in Imphal West district, who have been protesting along NH-37 in the Patsoi area.
With President’s Rule imposed in the state on February 13, following the dissolution of the Council of Ministers, the Governor is now carrying out the administration of the state on behalf of the President. The meeting was a crucial step towards ensuring the state’s development and growth, and the Governor’s active involvement in decision-making will be closely watched by the people.
