Renting a 6BHK villa in Alibaug, the picturesque coastal town near Mumbai, is a luxury few can afford. Gajanan S. Vaidya, a unexpected tenant in this exclusive community, shares his unique story, as part of our series “The Tenant.”

In an exclusive interview, Vaidya reveals that he not only enjoys the luxuries of his 6BHK villa, complete with a swimming pool, but is also neighbors with Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, whose Alibaug farmhouse is located adjacent to his property. This is not your average renter’s paradise, and Vaidya’s lifestyle is a far cry from the ordinary.

While living in Alibaug, Vaidya manages to enjoy the tranquility of the region, with breathtaking beaches and scenic views, and also has a business that keeps him busy. He spoke to our correspondent about his decision to rent a property in Alibaug, “I was looking for a change of pace and wanted to experience life in a smaller, more laid-back community. Alibaug seemed to fit the bill. Plus, the proximity to Mumbai made it easy for me to maintain my business interests in the city.”

For those who may not be as fortunate as Vaidya, sub-leasing properties for homestays is one way to experience the best of both worlds. Vaidya has experimented with this model, leveraging his existing property to generate income and interact with more people. “It’s been an interesting experience, to say the least. Sometimes, all my rentals are booked, and I end up sleeping in my car. It’s a far cry from the usual routine, but it keeps me young and reminds me that life is full of surprises.”

The tenant shares that Alibaug is an excellent place for people who want to escape the hustle and bustle of city life, yet still remain connected to the city. “It’s perfect for those who want to have a beachside retreat, but also want to stay within commuting distance of Mumbai. And, of course, having neighbour like Shah Rukh Khan doesn’t hurt, either,” he quips.
