Shoaib Akhtar Roasts Virender Sehwag: “The King of ‘300’ Claims’
Shoaib Akhtar and Virender Sehwag Engage in Social Media Spat Over Repeat References to Iconic Triple Century
Cricket fans are abuzz as two former cricket greats from India and Pakistan, Shoaib Akhtar and Virender Sehwag, have sparked a heated debate on social media. The controversy began when Sehwag, who holds the distinction of being the first Indian cricketer to achieve a triple century in Test matches, referenced his significant accomplishment in an advertisement with Mandira Bedi and Sahiba Bali. Sehwag’s frequent mentions of his milestone have apparently irritated Akhtar, who has taken to social media to express his frustration.
In a recent Instagram post, Akhtar, a former Pakistani fast bowler, shared a video urging Sehwag to stop talking about his 300, saying he is “fed up” of hearing about it. “Come on, brother, I was there too when you scored that 300. You played really well, no doubt,” Akhtar said. “But it’s the month of fasting, and one has to control their tongue, so please, stop now.” Akhtar even joked that if Sehwag wants to obtain a Guinness World Records record, he could help him achieve it by becoming “The person who says 300 the most in the world-Virender Sehwag!”
The rift between the two cricketers is believed to have originated from Sehwag’s recent advertisement, where he mentioned, “Ek triple centurion ke handle se @fwd ka ad post ho raha hai.” Akhtar, seemingly unhappy with the repeated mentions of Sehwag’s achievement, responded with a tongue-in-cheek remark, “VAlo Kisi Style Bande Ko Lene Next Ad Mein”. (“Hahaha, someone stylish is available for next ad, send me a DM”).
Sehwag’s triple century was scored in 2004 against Pakistan in Multan, making him the first Indian cricketer to achieve the feat. Akhtar, who was part of the Pakistani team, accompanied Sehwag during that match. The rivalry has become a hot topic on social media, with fans and pundits alike debating the merits of both players’ comments.
As the debate rages on, it remains to be seen how the two cricket legends will resolve their differences. One thing is certain, however, that this social media spat has brought the spotlight back on the iconic performance of Virender Sehwag, highlighting the enduring significance of his triple century in Test cricket.
