Manipur Police Cracks Down on Terrorists, Seizes Weapons in Operation Against KCP, RPF, PREPAK Operatives
Security Forces Nab Insurgents in Manipur: Extortion Racket Busted
Manipur’s law enforcement agencies have made a significant breakthrough in their fight against insurgency, apprehending several key cadres of various rebel groups, including the RPF/PLA, PREPAK, KCP(Apunba), and KCP-PWG. The arrested individuals are suspected to have been involved in extortion activities targeting the public and local businesses.
According to sources, on March 21, security forces arrested Laishram Romen Meitei, a 46-year-old active member of the RPF/PLA, from Uchol Makha Leikai under Andro Police Station, Imphal East. Meitei was allegedly extorting money from civilians, and a mobile phone and wallet were seized from his possession. On the same day, Nongthombam Kenedy Meitei, a 39-year-old operative of PREPAK, was arrested from Khurai Chingangbam Leikai near the Community Hall under Porompat Police Station. He was accused of extorting money from the public.
A separate operation led to the arrest of three active cadres of KCP (Apunba) from their residences in Imphal West District. The arrested individuals are Mutum Jackson Meitei, Akoijam Sanjoy Singh, and Nongthombam Gopen Singh. A significant cache of arms and ammunition was seized from them, including an INSAS Rifle, a 9mm pistol, two air guns, a double-barrel gun, and various firearm magazines. The weapons seized are believed to have been used in extortion activities, underscoring the gravity of the crime.
In another development, the police arrested Ningthoujam Chalamba Singh, a 28-year-old commander allegedly linked to the three previously arrested cadres. Two mobile phones were recovered from his possession, suggesting a high level of organization and coordination within the rebel groups.
A joint team of Manipur Police and Assam Rifles arrested Thangmangjam Naoba Singh, a member of KCP-PWG, from Mayang Langjing Bazar, Imphal West. He is accused of being involved in extortion, issuing monetary threats, and collecting money from stone crushers, shops, and the public around Imphal. Another arrestee, Ningthoujam Sundar Singh, was apprehended from Moirang Lamkhai, Churachandpur Parking, under Moirang Police Station, Bishnupur District. A mobile phone and an Airtel SIM card were seized from his possession.
The coordinated operations, which took place on March 20 and 21, indicate a renewed focus on dismantling the insurgency networks that have long plagued Manipur. The arrested individuals are suspected to be linked to various extortion racket and the security forces’ successful operations may have disrupted the rebel groups’ activities. As the investigation unfolds, it is crucial for the authorities to ensure the apprehended individuals are brought to justice, and the people of Manipur can breathe a sigh of relief, knowing that their safety and security are being protected.
