Poetry Lovers Unite: Jawaharlal Nehru College Hosts World Poetry Day celebrations
In a celebration of the beauty of language, Jawaharlal Nehru College, Pasighat, joined forces with the Department of Hindi, Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society (APLS) East Siang Branch, and Bodum Collective to host a poetry reading session on World Poetry Day. The event brought together over 30 students from various departments, showcasing their creative talents in Hindi and English.
Academics from various disciplines, including Dr. K.K. Mishra, Dr. Abani Doley, and Dr. Terbi Loyi, also participated in the event, reciting their original compositions and classic poems. Notable Adi poet Kaling Borang, Advisor of APLS East Siang Branch, and Shri Otul Jerang, Sectoral Secretary, presented their poetry in the Adi language, adding to the rich cultural diversity of the event.
In her welcome address, APLS East Siang Branch President Smt. Ponung Ering Angu emphasized the importance of preserving and promoting poetic traditions. Vice Principal Dr. Leki Sitang highlighted poetry’s role as the "purest form of emotional expression," encouraging students to incorporate Arunachali Hindi in their creative writing. The Head of the Hindi Department noted that the 21st century is the era of prose poetry, underscoring the dynamic evolution of contemporary literature.
A standout performance was by young poet Ayang Doley, a Class 2 student from SFS School, who captivated the audience with her recital. IQAC’s Organizing Secretary Dr. Ing Perme handled the event’s successful coordination, with the IQAC of Jawaharlal Nehru College, Pasighat, serving as the main sponsor.
This event serves as a testament to the growing interest in literature and poetry among students and academics alike.
