Cultivating Hope: Exclusive MOU Paves Way for Widespread Production of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants
Partnership Paves Way for Sustainable Livelihoods in Arunachal Pradesh’s Medicinal Plant Industry
In a significant move towards sustainable agriculture and rural development, Kirat Biotech Private Limited and Koje Janggo MAP Farmer Producer Company (FPC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on March 19, 2025, to collaborate on the cultivation, processing, and marketing of medicinal and aromatic plants in Arunachal Pradesh. The partnership aims to create sustainable livelihood opportunities for rural communities, conserving and developing medicinal plant species endemic to the region.
Under this agreement, FPC members will allocate suitable land for the cultivation of selected medicinal and aromatic plants, adhering to organic farming methods that promote biodiversity conservation. Kirat Biotech has committed to a complete buyback arrangement, ensuring the purchase of all produce at prevailing market rates with guaranteed support pricing. This will provide a stable market for FPC members, as expressed by Yasan Darang, Managing Director of Koje Janggo MAP FPC, who believes the collaboration will "provide the members with a stable market for their produce."
The partnership will also facilitate the adoption of organic farming practices, offering benefits to both communities and the environment. Kirat Biotech will provide technical assistance, including the procurement of planting materials, training, and management of essential documentation and permits required for cultivation and sale. "This partnership represents a significant step towards rural development and sustainable agriculture in Arunachal Pradesh," notes Pramila Choudhury, Co-Founder and Director of Kirat Biotech.
This collaboration is exclusive to medicinal plants, aromatic plants, and spices, and has the potential to positively impact the local economy and environment. As the project moves forward, it will be crucial to monitor its progress and ensure that the benefits are equitably distributed among all stakeholders involved. With its focus on organic farming and community engagement, this initiative has the potential to set a positive precedent for future agricultural projects in the region.
