Woman Attacked Near Umroi Airport in Meghalaya, Suspect Caught: Shocking Crime Shakes State
A 27-year-old airport employee, Ellana Lyngdoh Mawphalang, was brutally attacked near Umroi Airport in Meghalaya’s Ri Bhoi district earlier this morning. According to reports, Mawphalang was walking to work along the airport approach road when a suspect, believed to be a stranger, struck her with a broken beer bottle and a stone around 8:10 am on March 19.
Mawphalang was initially taken to the local Community Health Centre in Bhoirymbong due to the severity of her injuries, but was later transferred to the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) in Shillong for specialized treatment.
As per police sources, the perpetrator has been arrested, but the suspect’s identity has not been disclosed pending further investigation. The crime scene was registered at 8:30 am, and the suspected weapons, a broken beer bottle and a stone, have been recovered from the area.
Mawphalang, a resident of Nongrah in Ri-Bhoi district, hails from Madanryting in East Khasi Hills, Meghalaya. The tragedy has sent shockwaves across the region, with authorities vowing to ensure justice for the victim and her family.
Police are currently working to gather more information about the incident, and an investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the brutal attack. The suspect’s arrest is a significant breakthrough in the case, and further details are expected to emerge in the coming days.
