Breaking News: Reimagining Education with Ease – SOP for Seamless Transfer of School Teachers in the State Now in Effect
Guwahati: Teachers in Assam are facing a new set of rules following a recent direction from the Education department to apply for transfers online by April 30, 2025. The SOP, however, has left a section of teachers in a quandary due to certain priority conditions. The Teacher’s Transfer Portal reopened on March 18 to allow teachers to apply for inter-district transfers, with the last date for submission of applications being April 30, 2025. The Education Department aims to complete the transfer process during the summer vacation.
The SOP on Online Transfer of Teachers 2025 has introduced several conditions, including priority being given to teachers who have completed 10 years of service. Differently-abled teachers will be eligible for priority consideration after two years of service, and preference will be given to a female teacher who has completed two years of service in the same district. The percentage of disability will be taken into account.
The SOP also states that teachers will be given priority based on certain criteria. For instance, preference will be given to teachers who have served for 10 years or more in the same district. Teachers with a longer period of service will be preferred over those with a shorter period. Moreover, female teachers will be given preference over male teachers who are serving in the same school.
Additionally, the SOP states that teachers with specific requirements will also be given priority. For instance, teachers who are widows, suffering from critical diseases, or posted in remote areas, will be given preference for transfer.
The SOP also highlights the importance of the pupil-teacher ratio, with the overall ratio for Secondary schools being 40:1. However, the district-wise ratio will be taken into account for rationalization/transfer. In the case of Upper Primary schools, no single subject teacher, including Science, Mathematics, and Hindi, will be considered for transfer.
The SOP also emphasizes that teachers working as in-charge Principals should not be rationalized or transferred without prior approval from the appointing authority. Similarly, teachers from the Tea-Tribe Community serving in tea garden areas will not be transferred.
The Education Department has also made it clear that once a teacher is transferred, whether through mutual or single transfer, they will not be transferred for at least two years. Overall, the new SOP aims to promote equity and fairness in the transfer process.
As the deadline for submitting applications approaches, teachers are advised to carefully review the SOP to understand the criteria and procedures. With the Education Department working towards completing the transfer process during the summer vacation, it remains to be seen how the new rules will impact the teaching community in Assam.
