Amid Ongoing Violence in Manipur, Zeliangrong United Front Seeks Early Peace Restoration
The Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF), a prominent ethnic organization, has implored for an immediate return to peace in the tumultuous state of Manipur, as the violence among its sub-tribal communities continues to claim lives and leave many others injured. ZUF Chairman Jenchui Kamei expressed his disappointment and frustration with the recent developments at a press conference in Imphal, the state capital.
Kamei lamented the ongoing chaos, saying, “The violence is unfortunate, and it’s high time for the authorities to take concrete steps to restore peace in the region.” He emphasized that the sub-tribal communities, including the Zeliangrong Nagas, had been living together in harmony for generations, and the recent violence had disrupted this harmony.
The ZUF Chairman also criticized a proposal to set up a camp of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-IM) in the Zeliangrong areas, stating that it was a sensitive issue that required careful consideration and consultation with the local communities and the state government. “The setting up of an NSCN-IM camp in our areas is divisive and may lead to communal tensions and violence,” Kamei warned.
He further alleged that the NSCN-IM camp would be used to extort money, engage in anti-social activities, and collect illegal taxes on national highways passing through Zeliangrong-dominated areas. The ZUF Chairman urged the government to take concrete steps to address the grievances of the local communities and ensure their rights are protected.
The ongoing violence in Manipur has left many concerned about the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.
