Assam Sets Precedent: 15 Bangladeshi Nationals Repatriated, CM Sarma Assures Strong Borders
Assam Sends Back 15 Bangladeshi Nationals to their Homeland amid Ongoing Efforts to Curb Illegal Infiltration
Guwahati: In a stern show of action against illegal infiltration, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday announced that a total of 15 Bangladeshi nationals were repatriated to their country. The move comes amid ongoing efforts by the Assam Police and the Border Security Force (BSF) to prevent illegal entries from Bangladesh, particularly following political instability in the neighboring country last year.
According to reports, the operation took place in the Sribhumi district of Assam, which shares a 267.5 km international border with Bangladesh. The Sutarkandi Integrated Check Post (ICP) in Sribhumi serves as a crucial point for border control. Sarma praised the operation, stating, "Stern action against illegal infiltration. Continuing with their strict vigil along the Indo-Bangladesh border, @sribhumipolice intercepted 2 Bangladeshi nationals and pushed them back. This strict monitoring by @assampolice will continue. Good job."
The Chief Minister later confirmed that an additional 13 Bangladeshi nationals were pushed back through the Sutarkandi ICP, reiterating the state’s unwavering stance on illegal infiltration. The Sribhumi district, along with Cachar, Dhubri, and South Salmara-Mankachar, is a significant area of concern due to its lengthy international border with Bangladesh.
The move is part of the ongoing efforts to prevent illegal entries from Bangladesh, with the Assam Police and BSF working in tandem to ensure the safety and security of the region. The ICPs in Sutarkandi, Dawki (Meghalaya), and Akhaura (Tripura) are critical points for border control, and the Darranga ICP in Assam, along the India-Bhutan border, also plays a vital role in regulating the flow of people.
As the situation remains fluid, the people of Assam and Bangladesh continue to face challenges related to illegal infiltration, and it remains crucial for both nations to maintain effective communication and cooperation to address these issues. As the situation unfolds, local authorities will continue to monitor the border and take necessary measures to ensure the safety and security of the region.
