Indian Railway Station to Go Full-Fledged Female-Operated, Minister Announces
Union Coal Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy made a significant announcement as he inspected the modernization works at Begumpet Railway Station in Hyderabad, slated to become the first all-women operated railway station in the country. The Minister revealed that the re-development works, being carried out under the Amrit Bharat Station scheme, are nearing completion with about 90% of the work done.
As part of the scheme, a massive investment of 40 crores is being made to modernize Begumpet Railway Station in two phases. The Minister expressed confidence that the station would be inaugurated soon, marking a milestone in Indian railway history. The development comes as part of the Hyderabad-based South-Central Railway’s efforts to promote women’s empowerment in the sector.
The Railway Ministry’s ambitious plans don’t stop at Begumpet. Minister Reddy revealed that the government is investing a whopping 32,000 crores to develop 22 new railway projects in Telangana, with as many as 40 stations being modernized in the state.
