Security Forces in Manipur Conduct Widespread Search Operations, Seize Illegal Arms and Ammunition
Security forces in Manipur have conducted extensive search and area domination operations in the state’s hill and valley districts, leading to significant recoveries of illegal arms, ammunition, and explosives. The operations were carried out in several locations, including the eastern side of IVR between the foothills and Uyok forest under Nambol Police Station in Bishnupur district and the Loitang Sandum Hill range under Sekmai Police Station in Imphal West district.
During the operations, several caches of weapons and ammunition were seized. In the IVR area, security forces recovered a range of weapons, including an INSAS rifle, two carbine machine guns, a modified .303 sniper rifle with a magnifier scope, an SBBL gun, and a pistol. They also seized a variety of explosives and ammunition, including four hand grenades, three live cartridges, an empty magazine, two tear gas grenades, four anti-riot rubber bullets, and a grenade-launching tube. Additionally, they found two wood-piercing shells.
In the Loitang Sandum Hill range, security forces recovered a range of weapons and equipment, including an SLR rifle with a magazine, a pistol with a damaged magazine, two hand grenades without detonators, and two Baofeng handheld radio sets.
The operations were conducted to ensure the safe movement of vehicles and people along National Highway-2 (NH-2), with strict security measures in place. A total of 109 checkpoints, or Nakas, were set up across different districts in both hill and valley regions, with no detentions reported due to violations.
Authorities are urging the public not to believe in rumors or misleading videos circulating on social media, and to verify any questionable content through the Central Control Room’s rumor-free helpline at 9233522822. They are also warning citizens against spreading fake news, as legal action will be taken against those involved in such activities. Furthermore, an appeal has been made for the immediate return of looted arms, ammunition, and explosives to the police or the nearest security forces.
These efforts demonstrate the security forces’ commitment to maintaining law and order in Manipur and ensuring the safety of its citizens. As the operations continue, the public is being reminded to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
