Join the Charge: Nagaland Congress Unites for a Movement of Change
Nagaland: Congress Launches Membership Drive, Calls for People’s Power against "Anti-Constitutional" Forces
The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has launched its membership drive in Dimapur, marking the beginning of a movement to strengthen its presence in the state after the party’s win in the 2024 parliamentary elections. The drive, which will conclude on March 22, aims to spread awareness among citizens about the importance of standing up to the challenges they face in the current political climate.
Addressing the program, NPCC working president and former Rajya Sabha MP C Apok Jamir emphasized that the membership drive is not just about increasing numbers, but about mobilizing people to take a stand against the "anti-constitutional" forces threatening the very fabric of the country. "Some forces are attempting to destroy the Naga way of life and belief," he warned, without naming the BJP specifically. "It is our duty as citizens to resist these anti-constitutional traits and demand accountability from those in power."
Jamir also criticized the lack of transparency in development activities and the media, stating that newspapers often fail to highlight the growing concerns in the state. "As a party, it is our duty to raise these issues, making us a force to reckon with in the state’s political landscape," he added.
Dimapur District Congress Committee president Hutoho Chishi echoed Jamir’s sentiments, urging people to join the party to "save democracy and their future." "The power of the people is what can bring about change, as evident in the recent parliamentary elections where the Congress candidate was elected in the state," he noted.
The NPCC’s membership drive is seen as a significant step in consolidating the party’s position in the state, which has been largely dominated by other political outfits. As the poll results have shown, the people of Nagaland are increasingly turning away from the status quo, seeking change and justice. The Congress’s efforts to tap into this sentiment could potentially give it an edge in the state’s politics.
