Sikkim’s Visionary Chief Executive Unveils State-of-the-Art Multipurpose Hall, Fostering Health and Wellness in Pakyong Community

Sikkim’s Governor Om Prakash Mathur embarked on a one-day tour of Pakyong district, marking the launch of a new Integrated Multipurpose Hall in partnership with the Airport Authority of India. The governor’s visit was marked by a series of events, starting with the Alchem-Accessible Award Ceremony ‘Agaaz Plus’, where he praised initiatives aimed at improving cleanliness standards in Sikkim’s government schools.

The Accessible Sanitation Club and Alchem Foundation have been working together to enhance sanitation facilities, construction of changing rooms, and access to clean drinking water, aimed at reducing student dropout rates. Governor Mathur commended the establishment of girls’ changing rooms in schools, highlighting the connection to the Swachh Bharat Mission initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He noted that cleanliness has become a widespread movement, with particular benefits for women.

Later in the day, Mathur attended the 8th National Seminar on Yoga and Naturopathy in Rongli, where he emphasized the importance of yoga in maintaining physical and mental health. He highlighted yoga’s global recognition, saying, “With the tireless efforts of our Hon’ble Prime Minister, yoga has been embraced worldwide. This is a matter of great achievement and pride for our country.” Mathur also commended Dr. Arun Pradhan, Chief Director of the Holistic and Research Center, for bringing yoga and naturopathy awareness to rural communities.

The Governor wrapped up his visit by identifying Sikkim as an ideal location for wellness tourism, citing its rich biodiversity and medicinal plant resources. He proposed establishing wellness centers in villages, which could support self-sufficient communities and position Sikkim as a leading health tourism destination. The Governor’s visit demonstrated his commitment to promoting sustainable development and promoting Sikkim’s unique strengths, from cleanliness to wellness, to the world.
