In a bid to strengthen the electoral process in Arunachal Pradesh, Chief Electoral Officer Pawan Kumar Sain, Joint CEO Liken Koyu, and Deputy CEO Shania Kayem Mize met with representatives of various political parties at Nirvachan Bhawan in Itanagar. The meeting aimed to address grievances and clarify the changes in the electoral revision process.
As part of the revamped process, citizens can now submit advance applications for registration on multiple dates – January 1, April 1, July 1, and October 1. This deviation from the earlier single date of January 1 allows citizens to register at any of these designated dates, as long as they meet the eligibility criteria.
The officials also briefed the parties on the updated voter registration forms, set to take effect from August 1, 2022. Form 6 is now exclusively for new voter registration, while Form 7 retains its purpose for objections and deletions, with an added provision to attach a death certificate. Form 8 has been updated to facilitate residence shifts within or across constituencies, correction of entries, Epic replacement, and marking of persons with disabilities. Furthermore, objections for deletion from the electoral roll must be filed using Form 7, and appeals against electoral registration decisions must be made within 15 days.
The meeting also touched upon the appointment of Booth Level Agents (BLAs) to assist Booth Level Officers (BLOs) during the revision process. These BLAs will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth conduct of the electoral process.
The changes are aimed at streamlining the electoral process, making it more inclusive, and increasing transparency. By providing multiple dates for registration and simplifying the process with updated forms, the authorities hope to increase voter participation and make the electoral process more citizen-friendly. The meeting was attended by representatives of various political parties, all of whom were keen to understand the changes and ensure a smooth transition to the new system.
As the state prepares for the next electoral cycle, it is crucial that the changes are well-received by the public.
