Urgent Plea: MRPS Demands Immediate Freeze on Recruitment Amid Supreme Court Sub-classification Ruling

Manda Krishna Madiga, the founder president of the Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS), has voiced strong criticism against the Telangana State government’s current recruitment practices. During a press conference at the Press Club in Somajiguda, Hyderabad, on Sunday, he condemned the decision to fill jobs without completing the crucial Scheduled Castes (SC) sub-classification process. This omission, Madiga insists, disproportionately affects the Madiga community, a subsection of the SCs, and overlooks their rightful claim to employment opportunities.

Krishna Madiga highlighted the urgency for the State to address SC sub-classification before proceeding with any recruitment. A lack of classification, he argues, results in severe unemployment challenges for the Madiga community, which has long fought for equitable representation in government employment sectors. His critique extends to Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, whom he accuses of yielding to pressure from the Mala community—a rival SC subcategory—to prioritize their benefits over a fair distribution of opportunities through sub-classification. The alleged bias, according to Madiga, disrupts the balance and fairness within job allocations.

The MRPS leader was particularly vocal about the contradiction between the Chief Minister’s earlier promises and current actions. CM Reddy had previously committed to honoring the sub-classification during job filling but is now caught in controversy by progressing with recruitment results from significant exams such as Group 1 and Group 2 without observing these classifications. Madiga is demanding an immediate halt to these recruitment exercises until a formal Classification Act is enacted.

Krishna Madiga also cast doubts on the integrity of the report prepared by Shameem Akhtar, the chairman of the one-man commission reviewing SC sub-classification. He highlighted a significant lack of engagement by Akhtar with Madiga representatives, including MLAs, for a well-rounded understanding and representation of their needs. According to Madiga, the report is fraught with inaccuracies that could further marginalize the Madiga community.

In response to these developments, the MRPS is intensifying its activism, planning indefinite protests and ‘deekshyas’—a form of peaceful demonstration—across various districts and mandal centers until the passage of the classification law. Madiga is actively rallying support from allied associations and political entities that favor sub-classification to join these demonstrations. He also called for the resignation of the Chief Minister, labeling him ineffective in safeguarding the interests and rights of the Madiga community.

These demands and actions from MRPS, focusing on equitable job distribution and proper SC sub-classification, have stirred a significant dialogue about policy and representation in Telangana. The situation underscores the intricate dynamics of caste-based job allocation and the pressing need for comprehensive legislative action. As the protests gain momentum, stakeholders await the government’s next move in resolving the simmering tensions. This issue continues to be pivotal for social equity and the diverse communities within the state, further fueling the ongoing discourse on caste and employment in India.

Published on March 10, 2025, this developing story highlights the complexities of caste dynamics in Telangana, illustrating the need for urgent governmental action. As the situation unfolds, all eyes remain on the policymakers to address these community concerns equitably.
