Corrupt Cop Caught: Tripura Traffic Inspector Arrested for Massive Rs 74 Lakh Embezzlement Scandal
Agartala, March 5, 2025: A Traffic Inspector in Tripura has been arrested for allegedly embezzling a massive sum of Rs 74 lakh from the Bishalgarh Traffic Police Unit in Sepahijala district. The shocking revelation came to light during a routine reconciliation of traffic fines, which highlighted discrepancies amounting to a staggering Rs 74 lakh.
According to Additional Superintendent of Police, Sepahijala District, Rajib Sutradhar, the Inspector, Amarjit Debbarma, was responsible for handling the funds collected as fines. However, an internal investigation revealed that Debbarma had misappropriated the money. Despite being given multiple chances to return the amount, he failed to do so, prompting charges to be filed against him.
Debbarma, who has been serving with the Bishalgarh Traffic Unit since 2023, allegedly failed to deposit fines collected from eight challans. His brazen move has sent shockwaves through the department, with authorities swiftly moving to book him for the crime. “During the investigation, we found that Inspector Amarjit Debbarma had attempted to conceal the money,” Sutradhar said. “We are also investigating whether any other individuals were involved in this embezzlement.”
The accused inspector has been arrested and presented before the court, seeking a three-day police remand. The incident highlights the need for greater accountability and transparency in the management of public funds. The authorities are working tirelessly to ensure that justice is served, and the rule of law is upheld. As the investigation unfolds, one thing is clear: the people of Tripura demand honesty and integrity from their public officials, and it is time for the authorities to deliver.
The case is a sobering reminder of the importance of ethics and morality in public service. It underscores the need for robust internal controls and oversight to prevent such irregularities from occurring in the future. As the dust settles, one can only hope that the authorities will emerge stronger, more transparent, and more accountable to the people of Tripura.
