Revive Your Energy: Meghalaya Government Launches OTS to Ease Outstanding Electricity Dues
Breaking News: Meghalaya Government Unveils One Time Settlement Scheme 2025 to Help Electricity Consumers
Meghalaya’s Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma, has taken a significant step to provide relief to electricity consumers by launching the One Time Settlement (OTS) Scheme 2025. The initiative aims to help recover long-pending electricity bills and ease the financial burden on consumers. At an event held at the MeECL headquarters, the Chief Minister announced the scheme, which offers waivers on delayed payment charges, allowing 45,000 consumers to clear their outstanding bills worth Rs 119 crores.
The scheme is expected to benefit not only consumers but also the power distribution companies (DISCOMs), which have been struggling to recover debts. According to the Chief Minister, the move will help DISCOMs recover outstanding dues, enabling them to maintain stable electricity supply and improve their financial health. The initiative is a step towards simplifying the billing process, making it more consumer-friendly, and encouraging timely payments.
In addition to the OTS scheme, the Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited (MePDCL) has also launched a fleet of six vehicles equipped with advanced equipment, designed to speed up the maintenance services and reduce power outages. These vehicles, valued at Rs 1.48 crores, are equipped with aerial lifts and insulated buckets, allowing workers to safely and quickly access power lines at various heights and locations.
Experts believe that this innovative approach will significantly reduce the time it takes to restore electricity supply following outages, thereby minimizing the inconvenience to consumers. With the launch of these vehicles, MePDCL is poised to provide more efficient and effective maintenance services, ensuring a smoother and more reliable power supply to the region.
The OTS scheme and the introduction of advanced maintenance vehicles are significant steps towards modernizing the power distribution infrastructure in Meghalaya. Consumers can now look forward to a more streamlined payment process and improved electricity supply, making life easier and more convenient for them.
