Disputed Quip: Himanta Sarma’s ‘Aurangzeb’ Remark Sparks Controversy in Kolkata
Assam CM’s Scathing Attack on Rahul Gandhi, Mamata Banerjee: ‘Hinduism Will Never End’
In a strongly worded attack, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a salvo against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, claiming that they cannot "end Hinduism" just as Mughal emperor Aurangzeb could not.
Speaking at an event in Kolkata, Sarma alleged that the Left and liberal forces pose the "biggest danger" to Hindus, citing their perceived erosion of Hindu values and culture. "Aurangzeb had vowed to destroy Hinduism, but Hinduism did not end, Aurangzeb ended," he said. "Today, I want to tell Mamata Banerjee and Rahul Gandhi that if they think they can end Hinduism, I want to tell them that Hinduism will not end, Hinduism can never end."
Sarma, known for his strong Hindu nationalist stance, emphasized the 5,000-year-old Indian civilization, which has withstood various challenges. "From TMC in Bengal to Congress in the country, all parties come and go, but the Modi government will also come and go," he said, referring to the Indian Prime Minister’s leadership.
The Assam CM also highlighted the state’s demographics, stating that the Hindu population has declined to 58%, as compared to 65% in West Bengal. However, he asserted that "Hindu civilization will continue to remain and flourish."
Sarma’s remarks were met with a strong response from Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Kunal Ghosh, who dismissed the comments as "nonsense" and accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of using religion for political gains.
