Cracking Down on Crime: 29 Drug Traffickers Brought to Justice, Commitment to Stronger Action Promised
Drug Traffickers on the Run as Centre Vows to Intensify Crackdown
In a strong stance against the drug menace, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has announced that 29 drug traffickers have been convicted in 12 different cases across India. The Centre has reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating drug trafficking, with a promise to "pursue drug cartels relentlessly" and "build a drug-free Bharat."
According to a post on X, Shah emphasized the importance of "foolproof investigations" and a "bottom-to-top and top-to-bottom strategy" in tackling the issue. He stressed that the government was "unsparing in punishing" drug traffickers who "drag our youth into the dark abyss of addiction for the greed of money."
The Centre’s efforts to curb drug trafficking have gained momentum, with both the Centre and state governments taking decisive action. A recent review meeting in Manipur focused on addressing the state’s drug problem, with Shah vowing to dismantle drug cartels and establish a drug-free Manipur.
In Delhi, Shah chaired a high-level meeting with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Minister Ashish Sood, ordering a crackdown on the narcotics trade in the national capital. States have also intensified anti-drug initiatives, with notable efforts in:
- Punjab, where a massive state-wide operation against drug traffickers resulted in the arrest of 290 smugglers, with over 750 locations raided and 232 FIRs registered.
- Himachal Pradesh, where Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu launched a six-month-long special mission to dismantle drug networks, instructing the police to take stringent action against drug peddlers and forming a Special Task Force to intensify the crackdown.
With these concerted efforts, the Centre and states are working towards a common goal: eradicating the drug menace from the country.
