An ambitious attempt by the Assam police to conduct a raid at the University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM) was scuttled on Friday, thanks to a prompt decision by the Ri-Bhoi police to deny them permission.

However, Ri-Bhoi Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Vivekanand Singh Rathore refused to grant permission, citing concerns over law and order and the upcoming visit of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to Meghalaya on Sunday.
