Stunning Move: Narayana Murthy’s Company Breaks Silence on Employee Layoffs, Stays Connected with Impacted Staff
Infosys Under Scrutiny Over Recent Layoffs and Labour Practice Investigations
Infosys, the prominent IT company founded by Narayana Murthy, is under scrutiny following significant layoffs at its Mysuru campus. The Chief Human Resources Officer, Mathew, confirmed that Infosys is cooperating fully with the Labour Department, which is investigating potential labour law violations. Reports have emerged of growing tensions over employees’ working conditions and wages, prompting a detailed probe by authorities.
Mathew emphasized that Infosys is committed to maintaining compliance and transparency in all operations and is working diligently to provide all necessary information to the Labour Department. He reassured stakeholders that the company prioritizes the well-being of its employees and believes its practices align with regulatory standards.
The mass layoffs, involving hundreds of trainees, have sparked public outcry and criticism from the Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES), which claims approximately 700 trainees were affected. NITES accused Infosys of unethical conduct during the termination process, alleging that security staff were present to intimidate employees.
In response, Infosys clarified that the layoffs resulted from trainees failing to pass three consecutive internal assessments during their foundational training. Mathew explained that this long-standing process has been in place for two decades, with no recent changes.
Looking forward, Infosys plans to hire 20,000 employees in the fiscal year 2025-26, underscoring its commitment to workforce expansion despite current challenges. As investigations continue, Infosys remains engaged with the Labour Department, aiming to resolve any arising issues comprehensively.
