Shocking Blunder: Emotional Uproar as India’s National Anthem Played Before Aus-Eng Clash!
Lahore: In an unexpected mix-up during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 match between Australia and England at Gaddafi Stadium, the Indian national anthem ‘Jana Gana Mana’ was mistakenly played instead of Australia’s ‘Advance Australia Fair’. Typically, the national anthems of both competing teams are played before each match. However, after England’s anthem ‘God Save The King’, the error saw India’s anthem being played briefly before being corrected. This gaffe prompted widespread amusement and criticism on social media, with fans expressing disbelief over the incident.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the International Cricket Council (ICC) are expected to investigate and address this issue. As for the game, Australia’s captain Steve Smith won the toss and chose to bowl first. Both teams aimed to bounce back from recent ODI series defeats—England lost 3-0 in India, while Australia suffered losses in Sri Lanka, a non-participating team in this tournament. To progress to the semifinals, both Australia and England need at least two wins from their Group B matches, which also include South Africa and Afghanistan. The last ODI encounter between these two teams was last year in England, where Australia triumphed 3-2.
