Unveiling the Triumphs of Advantage Assam 1: A Powerful Success Story as Advantage Assam 2 Takes Flight
With just a day remaining before Advantage Assam 2.0, questions loom over the success of the initial 2018 summit in realizing its ambitious goals. The first Advantage Assam sought to position the state as a key investment hub, drawing MoUs worth over Rs 64,000 crore on the initial day, with participants including PM Narendra Modi and industry magnates such as Mukesh Ambani and N. Chandrasekaran. Featuring sectors like agriculture, tourism, and IT, the summit managed significant commitments, including Rs 10,000 crore from Oil India and Rs 2,700 crore from the Indo-UK Institute of Health.
Yet, the event fell short due to bureaucratic delays and infrastructure deficits. Many projects stumbled over regulatory hurdles, particularly those involving land acquisition and policy implementation. Despite these challenges, Tata Group’s Rs 2,000 crore investment in 17 cancer care centers recently made headway, with several facilities now operational.
As Advantage Assam 2.0 approaches, optimism persists. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has proactively engaged globally, aiming for Rs 100,000 crore in investments with a broader target. Expecting participation from over 30 countries, the summit anticipates new opportunities, marked by planned MoUs with Japan and Singapore. Japan eyes recruiting 50,000 workers from Assam, while Singapore plans to employ nurses, bolstering workforce ties.
Despite the setbacks, the first summit laid critical groundwork. While the 2018 event revealed infrastructural gaps, it established Assam on the investment map, a foundation the forthcoming summit hopes to build upon. Engaging stakeholders domestically and internationally, Advantage Assam 2.0 seeks to convert challenges into growth, positioning the state for a promising economic future.
