Shocking Arrest: Man Nabbed for Bold Ganja Smuggling Attempt via India Post in Imphal
In Manipur, a major breakthrough against drug trafficking occurred with the arrest of Akoijam Sachin Singh, 27, from Imphal. Singh was detained in connection with attempting to smuggle drugs via the India Post. The arrest followed an investigation prompted by the discovery of 2.920 kilograms of marijuana at the India Post’s Imphal Head Office.
The consignment, addressed to a post office in Delhi, raised suspicions among postal staff, leading to the joint inspection by the Manipur police’s Narcotic cells and postal staff. Upon scrutiny, it became evident that the parcel containing marijuana was deliberately mislabeled to conceal its true contents.
This incident highlights possible collaborations for drug trafficking within postal operations, warranting further investigations and preventive measures. Authorities filed a First Information Report (FIR), charging Singh under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985. This development underscores the ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking in the region, emphasizing the vigilance required at various operational levels to thwart such illegal activities.
