MD Brijesh Dixit Unveils MSIDC’s Inspiring Mission to Transform Infrastructure with Government Support | Mumbai News
In a recent interview with Siddhant Konduskar, Brijesh Dixit, Managing Director of the Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation (MSIDC), highlighted the corporation’s strategic approach to infrastructure development across the state. Despite Maharashtra’s robust highway and expressway systems, many district and taluka-level roads remain underdeveloped. To address this disparity, MSIDC is spearheading a transformative 6,000-km road project with a budget of Rs 37,000 crore. This project aims to enhance connectivity with high-quality cement concrete roads, leveraging a debt-equity model over a 17.5-year period, including maintenance.
Established in 2023, the MSIDC aims to bolster resources for infrastructure ventures by mobilizing funds and exploring Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) projects. The corporation’s initiatives encompass all 22 categories under the National Infrastructure Pipeline, including roads, railways, and airports.
Dixit explained MSIDC’s innovative approach using the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM), which divides financial responsibility between government and private investors. In Maharashtra, the government shoulders 60% of project costs, whereas MSIDC contributes 70%, securing competitive rates from financial institutions, thus ensuring efficient financial management and timely project execution.
MSIDC is also engaged in notable projects like the Pune-Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar Expressway, featuring a 55-km elevated stretch, the longest in India, and upgrading key highways to enhance transportation and industrial connectivity. Sustainability is at the forefront of MSIDC projects, with an emphasis on eco-friendly materials, green building standards, and energy-efficient designs, reducing environmental impact.
To maintain transparency, MSIDC uses e-tenders and adheres to RTI and CAG audit standards. As the corporation continues to gain momentum, Dixit envisions expanding into ports, airports, and rail systems, aligning with central and state government mandates, and further strengthening Maharashtra’s infrastructure footprint.
