Their search led them to a stunning five-bedroom Edwardian detached house in Grantown-on-Spey. Upon entering, Maryan was moved to tears, enchanted by the home’s grandeur, especially the beautiful staircase. This property, with its charming blend of restored period features and modern renovations, immediately resonated with Maryan. The house showcased an impressive fireplace with a built-in drinks cabinet and an ultra-modern kitchen in its newer wing, as well as mantlepieces in the upstairs bedrooms. Maryan expressed: “When I walked through the front door I was taken aback by the splendour, the greatness of the hallway. This property immediately gave me that feeling of just being home, of being hugged, and just being really welcoming.”
However, the couple received unexpected news from the show’s presenter, Jules Hudson. While the home was priced attractively at £560,000 and encapsulated their vision of a dream property, it posed a slight issue with the show’s format. Jules mentioned it didn’t entirely fit the “escape to the country” theme since it was in the middle of a town, albeit set back from the road. Despite this, Maryan and Michael were undeterred. Michael humorously remarked: “We can have a yacht as well as have the business, have the house – we’re done!” The couple saw the potential rule break as a minor hiccup and planned to return for a second visit, seemingly ready to embrace their not-so-country escape.
