Exciting News: Mizoram Unveils Groundbreaking Health Scheme with Rs 5 Lakh Coverage – Empowering Your Future, Says CM
Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma announced on Friday that the state government plans to introduce a new health insurance scheme, offering coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh to beneficiaries, in the upcoming fiscal year. Speaking during the budget session’s discussion on the governor’s address, Lalduhoma revealed that the government initially attempted to implement a healthcare plan conceptualized by the previous Mizo National Front (MNF) administration. This plan was to be backed by a Rs 1,000 crore loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). However, since securing the loan proved challenging, an alternative approach was devised.
Lalduhoma emphasized that comprehensive discussions have taken place with stakeholders, including pensioners, government employees, and private hospitals, to garner support for the new scheme. Confident in the state’s financial capacity, he assured that the initiative would be funded internally, negating the need for external borrowing from ADB.
The forthcoming health insurance plan promises cashless treatment for beneficiaries, with efforts underway to finalize arrangements with private healthcare facilities. This marks an enhancement from the existing Mizoram State Health Care Scheme (MSHCS) launched in 2019 by the MNF, which currently offers Rs 2 lakh annual coverage.
Moreover, the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), a central government initiative providing up to Rs 5 lakh in health coverage yearly, is also operational in Mizoram. The new state-led scheme aims to complement these existing programs, further bolstering healthcare accessibility for the citizens of Mizoram.
