Powerful 4.0 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Delhi: Feel the Tremors Across NCR on February 17 Morning
An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.0 struck parts of Delhi-NCR early on February 17, 2025, as reported by the National Center for Seismology. The tremors were felt widely across the city and surrounding areas, with the epicenter located near Durgabai Deshmukh College of Special Education in Dhaula Kuan, New Delhi, at a shallow depth of 5 km. Despite the relatively mild magnitude, the tremor’s shallowness contributed to its widespread impact.
Local residents, especially those in high-rise buildings in Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad, were prompted to evacuate their homes. A Noida resident noted the intensity despite not feeling it during a morning walk.
The region has a history of experiencing smaller tremors, with a notable 3.3 magnitude earthquake occurring in 2015. A loud noise reportedly accompanied the quake.
Officials, including AAP leaders Atishi and Arvind Kejriwal, expressed their concern on social media, praying for everyone’s safety. The Delhi Police reassured citizens through an X post, offering emergency support via the 112 helpline.
This event underscores the importance of vigilance and preparedness for future seismic activities in the region.
