Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has reported significant advancements in resuming the construction of the Jorhat-Majuli bridge, a crucial infrastructure project long awaited by the people of Assam. The process of selecting a new contractor is nearing its conclusion, paving the way for further developments. An Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC) meeting is scheduled for February 28, 2025, to address the Revised Cost Estimate of the project.
In his statement, CM Sarma emphasized the government’s dedication to swiftly completing the bridge, describing it as a vital link between Jorhat and Majuli. This two-lane bridge, including its approaches, will span 6,812.5 meters over the Brahmaputra River on NH-715K, thus improving connectivity and fostering economic growth, especially for Majuli—the world’s largest river island.
The EFC meeting, chaired by the Secretary of Road Transport & Highways, is crucial for finalizing financial aspects and is set for 10:00 AM on February 28, 2025. Key officials and stakeholders have been invited, and video conferencing provisions will be made available.
