In a successful operation, a 182-kg World War II-era bomb discovered in Assam was safely defused on February 13, 2024, in Lakhimpur district. The bomb, found by the Air Force on the banks of the Jhili river on September 27, had remained active. Lakhimpur District Commissioner Pronab Jit Kakoty confirmed the defusal took place within the Dulung Reserve Forest, underlining the expertise involved in the delicate procedure.
Divisional Forest Officer Manoj Kumar Goswami highlighted that all necessary precautions were observed to protect local wildlife. “We ensured a 3.5 km radius around the defusal site was cleared,” Goswami stated, emphasizing the careful planning and execution involved.
