Shock and Outrage: Manipur Man Arrested in Tripura for Daring Arms Smuggling Attempt to Bangladesh
Security agencies, including the Customs Division, apprehended a Manipur resident and seized four pistols and ammunition in Tripura’s Khowai district late Sunday. The operation, conducted near the Shingicherra border post, foiled an attempt to smuggle arms into Bangladesh.
According to Tripura Police sources, authorities had received intelligence about the individual’s involvement in a transboundary syndicate engaged in arms and narcotics trafficking. The suspect reportedly traveled from Lumding to Agartala aboard the Guwahati-Agartala Special train with illegal contraband. Acting on this intelligence, officers of the Customs Division, Agartala, closely monitored the suspect’s movements. An intensive operation was launched to intercept him, as the destination of the arms delivery remained unclear.
During the operation, security agents recovered four .32mm pistols, including Russian, US, and Indian makes, along with 150 bullets and five magazines from the suspect. This discovery led to the registration of a case under the Customs Act, 1962. The suspect was subsequently arrested and brought before the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Khowai, who remanded him to judicial custody.
