Despair Unfolds at AAP HQ as EC Trends Show BJP’s Dominating Victory
BJP Leads in Delhi Assembly Polls as AAP Trails in Key Constituencies
New Delhi, Feb 8: Early trends from the Delhi Assembly elections indicate a strong lead for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), surpassing the halfway mark of the 70-member assembly. As the numbers trend towards a decisive win for the BJP, a subdued atmosphere prevails at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) office, contrasting sharply with the jubilant celebrations at the BJP headquarters.
AAP leaders, including party convenor and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and prominent candidate Atishi, are trailing in their constituencies. Kejriwal, contesting from the New Delhi constituency, is currently trailing BJP’s Parvesh Verma, while Atishi falls behind BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri in Kalkaji. Other AAP figures, such as Satyendar Jain and Saurabh Bhardwaj, are also facing setbacks.
Despite these unfavorable trends, AAP maintains a cautious stance, opting for a wait-and-watch approach as they anticipate the final results. Meanwhile, Manish Sisodia, former Deputy Chief Minister, is leading in Jangpura, with Amanatullah Khan ahead in Okhla and Imran Hussain in Ballimaran signaling some glimmers of hope for the party.
Before the elections, Chief Minister Atishi expressed optimism about AAP’s chances, framing the contest as a battle between good and evil. She predicted a significant win of 40-45 seats for AAP.
In contrast, BJP leaders have expressed confidence, with MP Manoj Tiwari attributing their lead to the "blessings of the people of Delhi." Ramesh Bidhuri criticized Kejriwal for what he termed as "failures" and "false promises" over the past decade, believing these factors contributed to the BJP’s anticipated victory.
As of now, BJP is leading in 44 seats and AAP is ahead in 26, potentially paving the way for the BJP to assume power in Delhi. Voting for the Delhi Assembly took place on February 5. The final outcome remains awaited as both parties brace for the conclusive results.
