Assam University Employee Arrested for Molesting Teen on Campus
In a troubling incident at Assam University in Silchar, a 57-year-old employee was arrested on Sunday for allegedly molesting a 14-year-old girl on campus. The incident reportedly occurred on Friday morning when the victim was accompanying her relative, a university cleaner. While waiting outside an empty classroom in the law department, the accused, identified as Faruque Ahmed, allegedly forced her inside the room and attempted to sexually assault her.
Fortunately, other staff members and students intervened and rescued the girl from the situation. The victim’s family mentioned that she had been at the university since Thursday night with her relative, who had to report for work early the next morning and requested her to wait on campus.
Law enforcement swiftly responded, with the Cachar Superintendent of Police, Numal Mahatta, confirming that a First Information Report (FIR) has been filed at the Dwarbond police station. The arrest was made under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
This incident raises serious concerns about campus safety and emphasizes the urgent need for stringent measures to ensure the protection of all individuals, especially minors, on educational premises.
