Breaking News: Bold Mizoram Narcotics Bust in Champhai – Heroic Assam Rifles Seize Heroin, Detain Suspect
In a joint operation, the Mizoram Excise and Narcotics Department and Assam Rifles apprehended a man for possession of heroin in Champhai district. The individual, identified as a resident of Zotlang in Champhai, was arrested on January 30 after authorities confiscated 112 grams of the illicit substance from him. Legal action has been initiated under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act of 1985, according to an official statement.
This arrest comes shortly after a significant drug bust by Assam Rifles on January 27, where 2.27 kilograms of heroin, valued at Rs 7.64 crore, was seized near the Indo-Myanmar border in the same district. These operations underscore the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.
Law enforcement agencies continue to remain vigilant, intensifying their crackdown on the illegal drug trade along the border, a notorious hotspot for smuggling activities due to its proximity to international routes. The combined efforts of the Mizoram Excise and Narcotics Department and Assam Rifles highlight an increased focus on curbing the distribution and consumption of narcotics, aiming to secure the state from the detrimental effects of drug abuse and trafficking.
The recent seizures have reaffirmed the strategic importance of enhanced border security and inter-agency cooperation in tackling the burgeoning drug menace in the northeast. Authorities urge the public to cooperate and report any suspicious activities, as collective vigilance remains crucial in the fight against the narcotics trade.
