Shocking Scandal: Bengal Professor’s Controversial ‘Marriage’ with Student in Classroom Sparks Viral Outrage and Investigation
A viral video purportedly showing a senior female professor marrying a first-year student in a classroom has sparked controversy at a state-run university, prompting an official inquiry. The incident reportedly occurred in the Psychology Department of Haringhata Technology College in Nadia district, under the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology. The footage depicts the professor, adorned in bridal attire, and the student participating in traditional Bengali Hindu wedding rituals, such as ‘sindoor daan’ and ‘mala bodol,’ within an applied psychology classroom.
Following the video’s circulation, both the professor, who heads the Psychology Department, and the student have become untraceable. In reaction to the uproar, university officials have established a three-member panel to investigate the matter and demanded an explanation from the professor.
Tapash Chakraborty, the acting vice-chancellor of Haringhata Technology College, stated, “We spoke with the professor, and she claimed it was part of their practical class. We’re not satisfied with her explanation. We started a probe and have placed the professor on leave.”
The professor defended her actions, asserting that the event was a psycho-drama demonstration intended to elucidate concepts during her class. She emphasized that it was not an authentic wedding but an academic exercise. She further claimed the video was meant for internal use and was leaked without her approval.
Amidst the hullabaloo, the incident has raised questions about classroom practices and the boundaries of academic exercises, leaving the institution to manage the fallout as it seeks clarity through its inquiry.
